5 May 2026

Dear Parent/Carer,

Head Student Application Process 2026-27

A key element of the Sixth Form development plan is to improve the range of opportunities for Sixth Form students to develop leadership skills. The Head Student role is the highest profile example of this. We are seeking to develop the role of the Head Student, and to further expand the school leadership roles within the Sixth Form.

If you intend to apply for the position of Head Student, you will be required to submit a letter of application. Examples of past applications can be found on the student SharePoint (Sixth Form Independent). Your letter of application should be based on the following:

  • How you would meet the requirements of the criteria as given below in the Job Description.
  • How you would organise and encourage other Sixth Formers to take an active role in the life of the School.
  • How your personal experiences, skills and strengths would help make you the ideal candidate.
  • Indicate how you might restructure the student voice team or Sixth Form leadership roles.

Your letter of application should be no more than one side of A4 in length. Applications must be sent via email to Mr West directly. The closing date for applications is 3.00pm on Friday 15 May 2026.

Job Description

The current expectation is that you will lead the student body in the following ways:

  • Represent and lead student views via the School Council, the Sixth Form Student Voice team, and the school’s Trustees.
  • Lead a Sixth Form Leadership Team in making a significant contribution to the wider school community.
  • Assisting the Sixth Form Leadership Team on an ad-hoc basis as requested.
  • Contribute and attend school functions including Parents/Carers Evenings, Open Evenings, assemblies etc as required and directed.
  • Take responsibility for organising celebratory events, such as the Christmas and/or Summer Ball.

I look forward to receiving your applications.

Yours faithfully,

Mr D West
Head of Sixth Form
